Rowan Coleman is the author of 12 books, including  we are all made of stars. I’m proud Rowan took the time for an inteview with Anneke Schrijft! Following below is the interview in its entirety.

Twintig regels liefde is een goede vertaling van de Engelse roman, We are all made of stars geschreven door Rowan Coleman. Hoewel deze Engelse schrijfster al 12 romans op haar naam heeft staan, is dit de eerste roman die in het Nederlands is vertaald. Er is maar één woord nodig om dit boek te omschrijven…ontroerend. Twintig regels liefde is een origineel, zeer goed geschreven, prachtig verhaal. De brieven die verpleegkundige Stella schrijft voor haar patiënten geven het verhaal diepgang en de personages spreken tot de verbeelding. Dit verhaal laat je nadenken over wat echt belangrijk is in het leven,  vooral tijdens de laatste momenten.

Tijdens het lezen vroeg ik mij af, waar haalde schrijfster Rowan Coleman de inspiratie voor deze roman vandaan? Ik trok de stoute schoenen aan en vroeg Rowan Coleman of zij deze en enkele andere vragen wou beantwoorden. Het werd een leuk gesprek,  wat je hier kunt lezen.  Tell us a little about yourself.

Hello I’m  Rowan, I live in England with my large family and 2 dogs.  I like to read and crossstich!

Where did you get your inspiration for We are al made of stars? Such a great book!

My inspiration for this novel came first with my love of handwritten novels, and how they can convey so much, a moment, a memory, a sentiment that means much more than an email or text. And then when the idea for Stella came to me, I built the book round that.

Have you ever written a scene that you intended to be emotionally charged and got emotional yourself? How did you deal with it?

I often make myself cry or laugh, or fall in love! I think that’s when I can tell a scene is working!

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

The best thing about being a writer is getting to do something I love, every day and not knowing where my imagination will take me.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

I can’t afford to have writer’s block! Sometimes inspiration comes, but most of the time you have to sit at your desk and carve it out of the page.

 What’s the most recent book you read?

I’m reading One for Sorrow by Christopher Baarzak – it’s very beautiful sad and scary.

 What does success mean to you?

I don’t really ever think I have succeeded, I can see that I have achieved a lot through hard work and persistence, but the idea of success is one that includes me!
